Committee Congratulates Cager Champs

By Deborah McGuire

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township Committee recognized four teams from the township’s youth recreation basketball league for their accomplishments.
“We compete in the South Shore Basketball League,” said Recreation Director Chuck McDonnell. Each team played a schedule of at least 10 games during the regular season and then move on to playoff games and championships.
Middle Township had 10 teams playing recreational basketball this year. Eight of those teams played well enough to vie for championship titles.
“It’s definitely a testament to the basketball program itself and the coaches who volunteer their time. We’re trying to get these kids ready to play at the next level,” said McDonnell.
Committee members called each player from the four teams to the dais for individual recognition. Each player was presented with a commemorative hooded sweatshirt.
Members of the fifth and sixth grade boys’ team, seventh grade boys’ team, eighth grade boys’ team and eighth grade girls’ team were all acknowledged for their hard work.
Mayor Dan Lockwood offered his congratulations each of the players.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for Committee to be able to recognize your commitment to the sport, your hard work and your success because of all your hard work,” said Lockwood.
