Cape May Tech senior Josh Wright ended his high school basketball career on a 2,484 points high note.
“For Josh to score 2,484 points is remarkable,” Coach Joshua Mercado said. “It’s something that we will really appreciate as time moves on. Cape May Tech has had some big wins with him leading the way the past four years. We will be forever grateful.”
Wright will play basketball at Rutgers-Newark.
“He is already making preparations to ensure he’s ready to contribute next season,” Mercado said.
Playing basketball is ingrained in Wright’s mind. He plays basketball 365 days a year.
“Before he goes to sleep, he’s thinking about basketball,” Mercado said. “When he wakes up in morning, he’s thinking about basketball.”
The effort and time put into Wright’s career has led to his success.
“When you put the amount of time he’s put in the past four years and even before high school, you realize it’s no accident that he’s able to play the way he does,” Mercado said.
Wright is one of the most accomplished Cape May Tech Athletes of All-Time, according to Mercado.
“He has set the bar pretty high for incoming student-athletes,” Mercado said. “To witness Josh’s development both on the basketball court and in the classroom was special to be a part of. He is an honor-roll student and one of the most dynamic scorers I’ve ever seen play in this county. He will be missed greatly.”
