Cape Express Elite U23’s 3, Brick Lions 2
Cape Express Elite enjoyed a Sunday Funday as they traveled to Brick, NJ and defeated the host by a score of 3-2. After falling down 1-0, midway through the first half, CE Elite went on to score 3 unanswered goals, including two in the second half. Victor Figueroa scored at the end if the first half to keep the score even as the game entered halftime. Spencer Infranco scored early in the second half off a shot from just outside of the 18 yard box, while Ryan Saul came crashing through in the box to bury the eventual game winner off of a Jared Irwin service. The Lions would score late but, CE Elite was able to hold on to the victory. Joe Fala had his finest game of the Summer, causing much difficulty on the top line.
Cape Express Elite U23’s 4, OC Nor’Easters 1
In the battle of Cape May County, host Cape Express Elite won in convincing fashion over visiting Ocean City. Joe Fala started things off after winning a great tackle just outside the box, then dribbling toward goal and slotting the ball far post. Brendan Forrest scored with seconds remaining in the first half when Victor Figueroa made a heads up play to steal the ball from the OC keeper who was waiting for the halftime whistle with the ball at his feet. Figueroa found Forrest who capitalized on the error. Sal Zampirri would put the Elite up by 3 after scoring on a cheeky set piece from the far right side that deceived the goalie and beat him far post. OC would go on the score on a missed clear but the game never really got close. Christian Rafter put home a header off a brilliant assist from Brendan MacFarlane who sent the ball in from the right side to a well-positioned Rafter.
This game concluded the inaugural season for the Cape Express U23 Men’s team which finished with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses, and second place in the division.
