COURT HOUSE – Runners took their marks on Oct. 19 for the Cape May County Cross Country Championships at the Cape May County Park.
Lower Cape May senior Will Berger won the boys’ race and set the new course record of 15:57.26 after finishing third last year.
Ocean City teammates Jesse Schmeizer and Korey Greene were close behind Berger, taking second and third places, respectively.
Ocean City senior Alexa Weber won the girls’ title for the third straight year with a time of 18:44.39.
Weber’s teammates Casey McLees and Alexa Palmieri took second and third places, respectively.
In team scoring, both of Ocean City’s teams dominated another year. The Red Raider boys’ finished with 20 points. The first place win marked their third consectuive team title. Wildwood Catholic and Middle Township tied for second place with 89 points and Cape May Tech had 92 points.
The Red Raider girls’ finished with 19 points for their eight straight team title. Wildwood Catholic had 39 points for second place with Cape May Tech in third with 85 points.
All six Cape May County high schools send runners to compete in the championships.
