STONE HARBOR — On July 9, the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association (NJBBA) hosted nine vets along with their aids, drivers and activities managers to a day of fishing at Stone Harbor Pier.
The vets were brought from the Vets home in Vineland by bus to the pier where NJBBA members and volunteers assisted the vets in rigging their poles and fishing. Even though the fish and the weather did not cooperate (the first rain in eight years) most vets donned rain ponchos and continued to fish.
They did stop long enough to enjoy a lunch provided by NJBBA and then went back to fishing. Bob Swak of Cape May,brought his crab traps and caught many small crabs.
The vets were given caps with waving flags on them and small cooler bags as a token of our appreciation. Not only do the vets get the experience of a day of fishing but all the folks who come to help that day go home with a smile on their face.
The vets included, Rusty Colbourn from Franklinville, Carl Kock, Victor Peitro, Phila. Pa., Richard Burgin, Bill Byrne, Mays Landing, Richard Bacon, Bridgeton, Ed Hunter, Millville, Bob Swak, Cape May and Jerry Griggs, from Millville.
The next outing for the vets will be Sat., Aug. 7 at Stone Harbor. Check the website at www.njbba. com for directions and details as well as other upcoming events.
