Basketball: Area High Schools Keep on Winning

Kyion Flanders led Wildwood with 35 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s 71-64 home win against Gloucester Catholic on Feb 2. Trayvon Young added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors. Middle Township fell 58-40 at St. Joseph. Mack Selby scored 10 points for the Panthers. 
Trey Smith scored his 1,000th career point in Wildwood Catholic’s 80-43 win at Kingsway on Feb. 3. Lower Cape May won 43-34 at Oakcrest. Pat Holden led the Caper Tigers with a game-high 26 points. Cape May Tech won 74-54 at home against Vineland Prep. Josh Wright led the Hawks with 20 points while James Longstreet added 17 points. Ocean City won 59-49 at Absegami. Andrew Donoghue led the Red Raiders with 18 points and Luciano Lubrano added 17 points.
Wildwood Catholic won 50-46 against state powerhouse Christian Brothers Academy in the annual Battle by the Bay tournament in Atlantic City on Feb. 4. Taj Thweatt led the Crusaders with 12 points while Trey Smith and Charles Fields each added eight points.
Lower Cape May hosted Atlantic Christian on Feb. 6 and won, 57-43. Pat Holden scored 22 points for the Caper Tigers. Middle Township won 65-42 at Buena Regional. Coley Holton scored 18 points for the Panthers. Wildwood Catholic won 81-71 in overtime against Pleasantville. Caleb Fields led the host Crusaders with 29 points. Cape May Tech hosted St. Joseph and fell, 71-59. Josh Wright led the Hawks with 26 points.
GIRLS
Mackenzie McCracken scored a career-high 41 points in Wildwood’s 60-59 overtime win against Millville on Feb. 2. Maddie McCracken added 19 points for the host Warriors. Middle Township won 54-12 at home against St. Joseph. Bridget Ruskey led the Panthers with a game-high 17 points. Wildwood Catholic hosted Our Lady of Mercy Academy and won, 76-32. Lauren Moretti led the Crusaders with a game-high 20 points.
Ocean City won 54-19 against Absegami on Feb. 3. Alexis Paone led the host Red Raiders with 15 points. Lower Cape May fell 40-35 at home against Oakcrest. Marissa McGaffney had 13 points for the Caper Tigers in the loss.
Ashley Jackson scored a game-high 23 points in Wildwood Catholic’s 72-16 win against Atlantic City. Briel Herbert and Caitlin McMullan added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Crusaders.
Alexis Paone continued to lead Ocean City with 13 points in the team’s 40-29 win against Washington Township on Feb. 4. Mickey Baker added seven points for the Red Raiders and Rosalia Daddi added six.
Cape May Tech won 43-36 at St. Joseph on Feb. 6. Liza Fellini led the Hawks with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Middle Township hosted Buena Regional and won, 65-16. Bridget Ruskey led the Panthers with 17 points. Wildwood won 55-41 at Salem. Mackenzie McCracken scored 37 points and had 15 rebounds for the Warriors. Wildwood Catholic won 76-12 at Pleasantville. Lauren Moretti led the Crusaders with 26 points.
