The best shot has been just off the beach following the birds. There have been small flocks of birds following small schools of stripers. The stripers have been down deep; either cripple herring or diamond jigs have been working.
In the back at Patty`s Hole, Chuck from Roseman’s Marina in Stone Harbor reports stripers on live spot. But it is real hard to find the spot this time of year. Chuck also reported stripers have been caught on the sod banks floating live eels. Fresh bunker and clam have been doing the trick off the beach. Chuck has a good supply. This is not making the popper fisherman happy but it’s the way it’s going this year. The togs have shut off at the Cold Spring inlet. There were reports of most guys limiting out.
The fishing out back has been mostly shorts and on the beach front as been mostly shorts. This week we should see some improvement because it can’t get much worse.
On a recent trip to a local bridge, Tim Fleming did catch a few short stripers and one keeper on bubble gun worm with a three-eighth-ounce jig head.
Sunny and I fished right next to him but we did not have any luck. This week your best shot was out back or out front with jigs. Maybe these guys who mothballed their boats for the year had the right idea this year.
Sunny gives the fishing two barks this week.
