UPDATE: Marine Mammal Stranding Center issued the following update on the sea turtle’s health on their Facebook page Sept. 28:
“Turtle’s initial blood showed no infections, so Doc gave the ok to place her in the big pool. She’s swimming well, but has not chased the food yet. We will continue to monitor her and hopefully be able to return her to the sea again.”

AVALON – A large sea turtle washed ashore Monday evening, Sept. 26, along Avalon’s 10th Street beach, NBC10 Philadelphia reports.
Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) told NBC 10 Philadelphia the 280-pound female Loggerhead is the largest ever cared for at the center.
There were no signs of injury but the turtle appeared to be lethargic, MMSC continued.
MMSC hopes blood samples and a veterinary exam will help explain the turtle’s behavior.
