VILLAS — Lower Township Animal Control Officers Don Montgomery and Steve Parker loaded dog and cat food and treats into their truck Tuesday, Dec. 9 from the trunk of Lorinda Desrosiers’ car.
It was not the first time the officers had picked up a donation to help feed local pets. Desrosiers, who taught English for 17 years at Lower Cape May Regional School, has made it a monthly mission to provide $100 of pet food to a shelter or animal control.
Desrosiers said Smeltzer and Sons Feed and Pet Supplies in Court House provides her with a lot of pet food for $100 each month. It is divided equally for dogs and cats.
She said the only reason she agreed to have her photo taken for the Herald was to encourage other people to make similar donations.
Montgomery said he provides the pet food to local families that are having trouble making ends meet.
Desrosiers adopted a Shih Tzu, named Felicity that had spent three years living in a cage. The dog is now is enjoying a much better life including long walks.
Being blessed in her own life is her inspiration for donating pet food, she said, and living simply allows her to do so.
Her donation included a bag of pet treats from biscuits to Beggin’ Strips.
Montgomery said he met Desrosiers when he gave her dog a biscuit. He said he rewards pets when he sees them being walked on a leash.
