Paws and Claws Scholarship Awards Offered

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Paws and Claws Society encourages graduating high school seniors from Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem Counties to submit up to five ideas for increasing animal shelter adoptions by May 1, to be consider for the second annual Circle of Compassion Scholarship Awards.
Ideas can apply to an entire animal shelter or to specific types of adoptions like senior pets, special needs pets, feral cats or big dogs.
Nationally, only about 16 percent of pets are selected from a shelter. As a consequence millions of perfectly wonderful animals meet their end in “shelters.” Few people are aware that about 25 percent of the animals in US shelters are pedigree or that there are significant benefits to adopting a previously loved pet.
By adopting a shelter pet, you rescue an already viable, precious life and discourage the breeding of unwanted animals.
While May 1, ends the Circle of Compassion Scholarship Award, it begins the PACS Viral Video Challenge to create a heartwarming video depicting the positive aspects of animal sheltering and posting it on YouTube.
The winning video will be the approved video with the most views by midnight May 31.
