COURT HOUSE – Middle Township will host a Free Rabies Clinic Oct. 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middle Township Public Works Department, located at 400 West Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House. The rabies clinic is for cats and dogs, and dog licenses will be available for sale. License fees are $8.20 for spayed/neutered dogs and $11.20 for non-altered dogs. License forms may be printed in advance from the Township website at www.middletownship.com.
Mayor Clark said “Although rabies is a deadly virus, it can easily be protected against. In order to protect our pets and our families we must ensure that our companion animals are all vaccinated regularly. We sincerely hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity this clinic provides.”
Middle Township Animal Control Officer Bill Candell said “The Township will issue a summons to all dog owners we encounter who have not licensed their dogs. Remember that a license is a free ride home for your found dog.”
All dogs over six months of age must be licensed by Jan. 31 of each year. A rabies vaccination that is current until Nov. 1 of the licensing year is required to receive a license. A dog that wears a proper license can be easily returned to its owner if it is found. Recovering a lost dog at the shelter can cost the pet owner at least $45, while a 1-year license costs under $12 and a 3-year license costs less than $36.
