Firefighters, Animal Control Rescue Horse Mired in Muck

COLD SPRING — Firefighters from West Cape May and Cape May and Animal Control Officers from Lower Township rescued a horse that had strayed and wound up stuck in mud Tues., Oct 12 at Hidden Valley Riding Center, 4072 Bayshore Road.
Firefighters and volunteers arrived about noon. The horse was freed by 1:04 p.m. and able to trot back to a barn. According to police radio reports, the horse was missing overnight and was discovered mired in muck near Pond Creek on the ranch.
The horse was stranded in an area that did not allow trucks or a front-end loader to be used in the rescue which was dependent on manpower.
This reporter was turned away from the scene which was private property. Firefighters requested helicopters from Philadelphia television stations be keep away from the airspace over the ranch, so as to not further spook the horse.
