CAPE MAY – Join the Friends of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge at the Two Mile Beach Unit in Wildwood Crest on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. for a family nature program, Duck Safari. Ducks are the superheroes of the bird world: they can fly at 60mph, dive to depths of 200 feet, and are impervious to cold. Many species of ducks and geese spend their winters in coastal New Jersey – a region that, to them, feels downright balmy. We’ll start off at the Visitor Center with a brief introduction, and then learn more and observe some beautiful ducks on this easy trail and beach walk led by wildlife biologist and duck enthusiast Joe Smith. In winter, the Two Mile ponds hold large numbers of American black ducks, pintails, buffleheads and teal; the ocean off our beach holds loons, scaup, longtail ducks and more.
This event is free, open to the public and perfect for all ages. Free loaner binoculars will be available. No registration required. As always, dress for the weather. Heavy rain cancels the event.
Please meet at the Visitors Contact Station at the Two Mile Beach Unit of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, 12001 Pacific Ave (Ocean Dr), Wildwood Crest, near the former Coast Guard Loran Station. For more information or directions, please call 609-513-9349.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
