CAPE MAY — Bring amazing birds to your own backyard this fall and help our feathered friends when food is scarce during the Nature Center of Cape May’s 2010-11 “Bird Seed Sale Days.” Orders for the first sale day on Sat., Oct. 2 must be received by Sept. 18.
Don’t miss this convenient opportunity to stock up on a variety of top-quality bird seed for the winter, including locally grown Black-oil sunflower seed from right here in the garden state. NJ Audubon’s S.A.V.E. Brand seed is bird and environment-friendly and less expensive.
The S.A.V.E. name stands for “Support Agricultural Viability and the Environment” and directly supports habitat restoration for threatened and endangered grassland birds. For every five acres planted in birdseed, one acre is devoted to grassland habitat.
Need more of an incentive? NJ Audubon members get a 10% discount for pre-ordered seed, and everyone who places an order will receive a 20 percent discount on any one bird feeder or accessory.
Aspen Song Premium and Ultimate, Nyjer (thistle) seed, cracked corn and a tasty new woodpecker blend will also be available at the sale.
The pre-ordering deadline for the second sale is November 20 with seed delivered Dec. 6. A final birdseed sale will be held in February. All proceeds benefit the Nature Center of Cape May.
The Nature Center of Cape May’s fall hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The center is located at 1600 Delaware Ave.
