COURT HOUSE – Cape May County’s 4-H Livestock Committee will host a Poultry Clinic March 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The hands-on workshop is open to the public and will be held in the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, located on the 4-H fairgrounds.
Poultry Showmanship expert Teresa McGaghey will kick off the clinic at 10:00 a.m. by demonstrating both the basics and the finer points of showing a bird in competition. Poultry will be available for participants to work with during the clinic. Clinic coordinators ask participants not to bring their own birds in order to preserve safe bio-health standards.
The Cape May County 4-H Livestock Committee will offer a picnic lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. There is no registration fee, however participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert for the picnic.
Peter Brown, known as the “Chicken Doctor” and owner of First State Vet Supply will present hands on information concerning poultry health from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Mr. Brown, from Delaware, has spent a career in the poultry industry. He will discuss serious poultry health issues such as Bumblefoot, demonstrate how to insert a feeding tube and teach participants to administer vaccinations. Brown will also have poultry health and care products for sale.
Clinic Coordinator Louise Sugar is pleased to offer this clinic two years in a row. “Last year’s clinic was well attended by poultry enthusiasts from as far away as Ocean County. This year’s clinic promises the same.” she says.
