COURT HOUSE – Middle Township High School Athletics honored four alumni athletes on Jan. 9 by unveiling new banners of their retired jerseys.
John Roberson, Class of 1948; Ricky Harmon (1978); Jennifer Snyder Legler (1985); and John Leahy (1990), were recognized for their outstanding careers in a ceremony prior to the Lady Panthers game against Mainland Regional.
The banners will hang above Tom Feraco Court for future generations to remember their impact at Middle Township.
John Roberson had his No. 27 retired for his contributions on the Panther football team. He led the team to a co-county championship in his senior year and scored 92 points. He was also a member of the basketball and track teams before graduating in 1948. After graduating from Indiana University, he returned to his alma mater to teach and coach football until his retirement in 1979.
Ricky Harmon had his No. 53 retired for his outstanding career with the Panther basketball team. He was team MVP all four years in high school and was a major prospect for colleges around the country. His honors included All State, All Cape May County and All South Jersey. He finished his high school basketball career in 1978 with 1,949 points before playing at Syracuse University.
Jennifer Snyder Legler is the only female athlete to have her No. 20 jersey retired for her career with the Lady Panther basketball team. She scored 1,589 points in her four years and led the team to a South Jersey Group II title. Upon her graduation in 1985, she went on to play for Division I LaSalle University.
John Leahy had his No. 30 retired for his distinguished career with the Panther basketball team. He led the team to a South Jersey Group II title his senior year and finished with 2,139 career points. Once he graduated in in 1990, he had a successful career at Seton Hall University and played overseas for ten seasons. He returned to his alma mater to coach the Lady Panther basketball team and is currently in his fourteenth season with a recent appearance in the group final.
