COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Mayor Timothy Donohue issued a release March 14 dealing with the municipality’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
According to a release, “There were zero confirmed cases of the virus in Cape May County.
This is good news, but we do not expect this to last.
While this is a time to pause, it is not a time to panic.
At the state, county and federal levels, prudent and appropriate measures are being taken to ensure that funding, programs and materials are in place to address this state of emergency.
To support these efforts, Middle Township will be taking the following steps:
All schedules programs at the DeVico Senior Center have been cancelled until further notice.
All indoor programs and activities at our recreation centers are cancelled and all spring sports scrimmages and games have been postponed.
The Homework club at the MLK Center will continue as long as the schools remain open.
Outdoor facilities will remain open to the public. Contact the Recreation Department for details.
As ordered by the state, Middle Township Municipal Court dates are cancelled through the end of March.
Township Hall will remain open, and we are taking all precautions to ensure the cleanliness of our public buildings to protect our employees and our residents.
We encourage all those who need municipal services to try to communicate by email or telephone whenever possible.
The Middle Township Police Department will be releasing new protocols related to officers’ response to minor, not emergency, calls for service.
These steps are designed to continue to protect the public, while also protecting our officers from possible exposure to the virus. Chief Leusner will be releasing those details shortly.
Individually, we all must do our part to slow the spread of the virus. If you feel healthy, go on with your daily routine, but he smart.
Keep your distance. Avoid large crowds and wash hands often.
If not feeling well, stay home. If you are a senior citizen, or live with and care for a senior citizen, you should try to avoid any unnecessary public outings and practice social distancing, avoiding personal contact with others.
These are unsettled times, but as we see other regions of the world emerge from this epidemic, we learn what is working and adopting the best approaches, we will get through this together.
Middle Township will continue to provide the most updated information available and to adjust our policies as the situation evolves, public safety is our number one priority.
