Why use a serger or overlock machine? What’s all the fuss about? Why bother with a serger?
Because it is fast. You can stitch, trim, and overcast a seam in one step instead of three. You can cut the sewing time of a project in half.
Sergers can be intimating at first glance. But once you are instructed in the workings of this machine it can be a true prince in the sewing room. With the new technology, most sergers virtually thread themselves.
There are more reasons than speed to use a serger. Many new and interesting finished borders can be achieved because of the many spools of thread. Also, many projects from clothing to personal and home accessories can be made solely on the serger requiring no hand stitching for the finished product.
