When trying to grow your own garden, it is important to know when to begin planting. Here is a list of the easiest vegetables to grow and when you should plant them.
1. Carrots: Be sure when planting carrots the soil is not rocky and leaves enough space for this vegetable to grow. Begin planting carrots on April 10 and cease planting on July 15.
2. Spinach: Spinach is great for salads, soup and even breakfast due to the high iron. Spinach can be planted two different times of the year – once from March 25 to April 15 and then again from August 15 to the 30.
3. Cucumbers: This is another plant that requires a lot of space. Be sure to give it plenty of room to spread. Plant your cucumbers from May 10 to June 15.
4. Tomatoes: New Jersey is known for its tomatoes, therefore the list would not be complete without tips on how to cultivate your own. Get those tomatoes ready from May 10 to June 1.
5. Summer Squash: Squash is becoming increasingly popular. Summer Squash can be planted from May 10 to June 15.
*Helpful Hint* Squash does not like wind, so be sure to keep it protected.
