This past weekend an interesting couple perused the showroom. Christina and Mark (formerly of Haddonfield, NJ) told their story of transitioning from a large 4 bedroom mainland home to a cozy 600 square foot beach cottage this past year.
Nearing retirement, the couple decided to downsize in a big way and purge all of the accumulated items from their decades-long marriage. To facilitate such a daunting task, they enlisted an experienced Estate Sales’ team to sell their furnishings, personal items, and massive antique collection. They packed their bags one weekend and poof!, their possessions were gone. The idea of holding your own Estate Sale may be distasteful for some, but for Christina and Mark it was cathartic. They used some of today’s technology to preserve all the important items; old photographs were scanned, and the husband’s extensive LP collection and elephant-sized stereo system were sold off and replaced with a digital collection of tunes sent to zip drives.
After a bit of conversation, the couple shared (with great excitement) one of their strangest purchases for their new, smaller home – a radio toaster. Yes, radios and toasters can now be purchased as one item. Who knew? As they are phasing into their newly “compressed” lifestyle, they are finding creative, multifunctional pieces to complete their space. Christina spied an extra small 15” table lamp and a 13” wide cabinet suitable for her home’s needs while browsing the showroom.
