Having a pet is like having a child. When you are about to have a baby, you baby proof your home. The same logic applies to pet ownership. Before bringing your new fur baby into your home, you’ll want to baby proof everything. This includes removing any plants that could be harmful to the animals. Here are the top five common household plants that are not safe for your pet.
Lilies are incredibly common household plants, but have adverse effects on your pets. They are toxic to cats and could also result in kidney damage. Yikes!
A Sago Palm, while bringing summertime into your house, could have catastrophic effects on your baby. All part of the Sago Palm are poisonous, but it is the seeds that contain the highest amount of toxins. Just one or two seeds can result in seizures or liver failure.
Tulips are another common household plant that you do not want your kitten or puppy to eat. This plant can cause cardiac abnormalities and central nervous system issues.
The Azalea is another fatal flower in our list. The Azalea can cause depression in the central nervous system, coma and death from cardiovascular collapse.
Last on our list is the Oleander. This beautiful flower is not nearly as beautiful for your pets. All parts of the plant are considered to be toxic. If ingested by your fur baby, it can cause abnormal heart function and even death.
