When choosing cabinets, it can be a daunting process whether you’re remodeling or building a new home.
The easiest way to start is by choosing a cabinet type: door design, materials, and colors will pinpoint your style. However, the type of cabinets you use will determine your budget.
Stock, semi-custom and custom are the first choices you will have to make.
Stock cabinets are the most economical; usually have the least amount of options, shortest lead time and typically not as good of quality as the other two cabinets.
Semi-custom are cabinets that only come in certain sizes but if a custom piece is needed this can be added to the order. Custom cabinets are built at any size.
Both semi-custom and custom can cost about the same amount but have a few different characteristics.
Semi-custom is a factory finish that is more durable because it sprayed in a very controlled environment. Plus you are backed not only by the dealer but also the manufacturer. In these economic times that is priceless.
Lastly, no cabinet is going to look good unless you have qualified cabinet installers. Ask any installer what the most difficult cabinet to put in is, and he will tell you a less expensive line, because you are trying that much harder for it to look good.
