Spring is coming! No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. With spring comes spring-cleaning, and when you spring clean, remember your screens.
Take a moment to inspect your porch or patio screens, your screen doors and your window screens. Here is what to look for:
• Inspect the screening for any rips, tears or sags.
• Inspect screen frames to see if any are bent or broken.
• Check to see if your screen frames fit properly.
Screen frames need to seal up against the porch frame or window frame. You want the proper fit in order to prevent bugs from getting in. Discolored screen frames (usually turning white) mean they are losing their integrity and may need replacing. In addition, any screens that sag or billow in the wind need replacing.
Next on the spring-cleaning agenda, take time to wash your screens. Screenmobile of Cape-Atlantic recommends that you use mild soap & water to clean your screens. For removable screens, you can use a hose with the nozzle set at a fine spray. Be careful not to scrub too hard as some screen frames can dent.
After inspecting and cleaning your screens, you may find that you need new window screens or just need them re-screened. You may need a new screen door, slider, a porch re-screened or its time for an entire new porch enclosure. Let us take the hassle out of spring maintenance.
