Spring is officially here, which means “spring cleaning” will soon become a priority for many. But spring cleaning isn’t just limited to the inside of your home. Your storage shed deserves some attention, too, on both the outside and inside. Follow these seven steps to get your shed spring-ready!
On the Outside:
1. Clear the base. Get rid of any leaves or debris at your shed’s base, leaving a few inches around the base. This will let it breathe, avoiding any rot or damage to your shed’s foundation.
2. Give the outside some TLC. After the brutal winter weather, your shed will more than likely need some outside maintenance. Patch any leaks or holes, power wash the exterior and if needed, slap on a fresh coat of paint!
3. Check the roof. Examine your shed’s roof for any leaks or lost shingles. Fix your roof ASAP if needed to avoid any damage to the inside of your shed and its belongings.
On the Inside:
4. Empty it. Remove all contents from your shed, and while in the process, get rid of anything that’s broken or no longer useful to you. Also dispose of anything hazardous such as expired cleaners, old paint and dried up liquids, and throw away any trash that may have piled up.
5. Give the inside some TLC. After your shed is empty, wipe dust off of interior shelves, clean any windows, and sweep up dirt and debris.
6. Reinforce shelves and hooks. With our changing seasons, it’s likely your shelves, hooks, screws and nails have loosened a bit. To avoid injury and damage, check this hardware and reinforce it if needed.
7. Get organized. Rotate your equipment and move lawn tools, gardening gear and other backyard accessories toward the front while pushing snow equipment and holiday decorations toward the back. Use shelves, boxes and labels so everything is easily identified and accessible!
