Spring Cleaning Your Storage Shed

With spring just around the corner, “spring cleaning” will soon become a priority for many. But spring cleaning isn’t just limited to the inside of your home. Your storage shed deserves some attention, too! Decluttering and organizing your shed in preparation for the warmer months ahead will allow easy access to and more storage for those warm-weather needs such as gardening tools, lawnmowers and beach gear. Here are three simple steps to spring cleaning your storage shed:
1. Empty it – Remove all contents from your shed, and while in the process, get rid of any unnecessary junk.
2. Clean it – After your shed is empty, wipe dust off of interior shelves, clean any windows and sweep up dirt and debris. Power wash or scrub your shed’s floor and exterior, and make sure the inside dries completely to avoid mold growth.
3. Organize it – Once your shed is completely dry, you’re ready to place items back inside in an organized, orderly fashion. To stay organized, use shelves, boxes and labels. Place seasonal items such as holiday decorations toward the back, and make sure larger items such as lawnmowers are easily accessible and surrounded by no clutter. Another organization tip is to hang gardening tools on the wall!
