Winter is near, and with it comes heavy snow, endless ice and cold weather – conditions that can easily damage your storage shed. Now is the perfect time to prepare your shed for the chilly months ahead so you can avoid unwanted damage.
Here are some tips to get your shed ready for Old Man Winter:
1. Caulk any leaks in the walls or windows and patch any holes in the roof. Make sure there is no way for water from rain and snow to get into the shed – this could cause damage to both the structure and the contents inside.
2. Clean gutters and drains to prevent damage from melting snow and ice.
3. Check your weatherstripping for cracks, and be sure to replace it if needed. If you don’t already have weatherstripping, now may be a good time to add it to prevent water from getting in.
4. Move snow shovels, battery chargers, ice melt and ice scrapers to the front of your shed for easy access throughout the winter.
Throughout the cold months, make it a priority to periodically check your shed for leaks, water damage, broken windows and other problems, and fix them right away to protect your shed.
Take these precautions and your wallet will thank you later!
