MARMORA — Forty Years in the vacuum cleaner business has taught me a lot. I have watched as vacuums evolved from heavy metal clunkers to light weight plastic construction.
Manufacturers have tried to combine the two (solid metal construction with the ease of being lightweight), and I am asked all the time, “What is the best vacuum?”
There is no simple answer to this question; it’s a matter of preference.
Do you like an upright, canister, or canister with a power head? Those are the pertinent questions to ask yourself. I have found that selling only better grade vacuums is the best thing to do for my customers.
When choosing a vacuum cleaner, keep the following in mind: power, durability, noise, clean air, ease of use and storage. Different manufacturers will spin your head with claims of more power, more amps, more watts, better cleaning efficiency, hepa filtration, ergonomically designed, true hepa, never-clog, non-stop suction and numerous other meaningless terms.
It’s more important for a customer to “experience” the feel, sound, and power of a vacuum, rather than trust an advertisement or some department store salesman who will not be there for you if you have problems or need consultation about your vacuum.
There are many junky vacuum cleaners on the market with lots of claims. You just can’t believe most of what is advertised. And your guarantee is only as good as the reputation of the one that sold it to you. But, it’s not unreasonable to expect a vacuum to last 10 or 15 years — if you pick the right one!
The right vacuum cleaner will be sealed throughout, so that only clean air comes out the exhaust. You don’t want those fine dust mites that you are sucking out of your carpet to be just blown back in the air for you or your loved ones to breath (let’s not make the baby’s lungs the last filter in the room).
The right vacuum for your carpet will have the right spinning roller brush to loosen the hairs and sand from the fibers, because each particle of sand has hundreds of sharp edges that will cut the fibers in your carpet as you simply walk on it.
Remember, different strokes for different folks so, before falling for the next advertisement that you see or hear, take advantage of the “experience.” Take your new vacuum for a test ride.
