COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is excited to announce the formation of the county’s newest 4-H club. Members of the club, who are students of the Cape May County Special Service School District, named it “The 4-H Greenhouse Garden Club.”
The focus of this club, according to 4-H Club Leader and Master Gardener Nancy Hart, is community based and ecologically sustainable gardening. In addition to learning how to grow and nurture plants, the club will participate in a variety of community service projects, such as assisting Sue Keen in Avalon in a dune grass replenishment project.
This club is an offshoot from the Master Gardener Program taught by Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Both Nancy Hart and fellow Master Gardener Merri Tozer have many more ideas for the club. “We have found that not only are we teaching horticulture and growing plants for a sustainable New Jersey, we are also growing a deep admiration for what these kids can accomplish,” says Hart.
