Maintaining Your Shed During Winter Months

Seashore Sheds Winter

Winter is upon us, which means heavy snow, endless ice and cold weather. These conditions can easily damage your storage shed, which is why you should make it a priority to periodically check your shed throughout the cold months. Leaks, water damage, broken windows and other problems should be fixed right away to protect your shed, its contents and your wallet. Here are four tips for winter shed maintenance:
1. Caulk any leaks in the walls or windows and patch any holes in the roof. Make sure there is no way for water from rain and snow to get into the shed – this could cause damage to both the structure and the contents inside.
2. Sometimes winter winds can push water from rain and snow into your shed. Clean up unwanted water right away to avoid water damage and mold when temperatures start to rise.
3. Once icy conditions are over, consider repainting or re-staining your shed. Sheds should be painted or stained every 3 to 5 years to seal cracks and protect the siding.
4. Keep snow shovels, battery chargers, ice melt and ice scrapers at the front of your shed so these things are easily accessible throughout the winter.
Follow these four simple tips and your shed will be ready to go once spring rolls around!
