Bob Botson of Cape May’s Nantucket Avenue decided to take up gardening post-retirement in hopes to keep busy and spruce up his home’s already neat exterior. This minor hobby has since blossomed into a deep passion and his residence has become one of the development’s main attractions. “People drive by to see the latest that I’ve planted or to check on the flowering status,” he explains. His wife, Peg Botson, insists that “it’s the English in him” that his given Bob this penchant for cultivating their beautiful landscape. “He really enjoys it,” she laughs, “and we even spend a good number of our afternoons sitting on the front porch and enjoying the flowers. With a few snacks of course,” she finishes.
Bob often spends the harsh winter months scouting new trees, bushes, and flower genera that will make the best additions to his landscape come spring. Once his spring planting process is complete, Bob devotes about three to four hours once a week spraying and pruning. The result of Botson’s dedication to the upkeep of each one of his shrubs, trees, and flowering plants is a beautiful complete landscape that brightens the day of each passerby.
