They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but history has proven “them” wrong time and again! Better yet, why not teach a young person some new skills, especially if they are not being taught in schools any more?
We are talking about learning (or relearning) how to sew. When was the last time someone complimented you on a jacket you were wearing, and you were able to reply with, “I made it myself!”
Do you need some new decorative items like throw pillows, or more practical things like new place mats but can’t afford to hire someone to make them for you? Take a class and learn how to do it yourself. It isn’t rocket science, and no one’s life depends upon it, so how hard can this be?
Sewing is proven to help people relax and enjoy the process of making things. In most cases, sewn items are functional, so you have an opportunity to not only make something useful, but use some creative energy to add your own touch to it at the same time.
Can’t afford to buy gifts for everyone on your list for the holidays? Make them yourself! Almost everyone appreciates the time and effort you put into making things, and chances are they’ll remember you every time they use your gift.
