It all started for us one summer on our deck with a great dinner with some friends and what I thought was a perfect summer night. Half way through the salad we went running for the protection of indoors with everything we could carry.
The bugs had gotten so bad the mosquitoes were eating everything (the salad, my friends, and my kids). Now we all know that the mosquitoes are bad in Cape May County and we’re all aware of the potential health problems.
But citronella comfortable is not enough to stop us from running to the protection of indoors. Needless to say, the next summer our to do list included screening our deck. This was years ago, and we have had many great years out on the screened porch were it is comfortable and cozy for our family and friends.
The best part of it was when the children would get hot and unable to sleep…could go out on the screened in porch, turn on the fan, and get some sleep listening contentedly to the night time sounds. Screened porches give you that open-air feeling of being outdoors that we local folks most appreciate. We love the breeze but hate the bugs.
With all the new innovations over the years, screened porches have come a long way. They can be designed to fit your personality from traditional to contemporary or anywhere in between. When deciding to do a screened porch, you can start with your deck or you can design one that blends in with your house. Most importantly make sure the design works with your home, and looks like it’s always been there.
Ideas on what can be done to decorate your screened porch are almost endless. They can be rustic to formal. You can purchase almost anything you could need for an outdoor room including beautiful furniture, lamps, water features, and artwork. What I find most important is that great outdoor overhead fan.
Keep the air moving I always say. The floors can look similar to your flooring indoors. For example carpet, hardwood, and tile, just make sure the products are made to withstand the elements of the outdoors.
Another great product to consider is a moveable insert for your screened porch. They can be custom made to fit, so you can remove your screens for easier cleaning. Another great idea is replacing those screens with glass panels. They are a wonderful idea because they allow you more use of your new outdoor room, even when the temperature drops.
If you decide this is a solution to enjoying more of the outdoors, give us a call. We will be glad to sit down with you and your family to discuss how you would like to design your screened porch. With your great taste, and our fine quality, possibilities are endless.
