Habitat ReStore Workshop Series Expands

Treasures Creatively ReImagined at the ReStore

By Sponsored

The Habitat ReStore in Cape May Court House is full of inexpensive treasures that can be creatively RePurposed – a table ReSurfaced, a chair ReVamped, a China Cabinet ReEnvisioned, a mirror or picture frame ReInvented. Merchandise sitting on the ReStore floor today may be hiding a secret inner life, just waiting to be ReImagined with a creative twist.
All this possibility inspired the ReStore staff to offer a first-ever workshop: ReCreating with Mosaic, in early April 2018 – which quickly sold out. A second was added in May – which sold out as well. Now the ReStore has added two more mosaic workshops in June and July, with the July class schedule adjusted to accommodate our busy Cape May County summer season. A dedicated workshop area has been created at the back of the ReStore, where ReStore visitors can often see the works of art in progress.
Each workshop includes a preparatory clinic and four sessions over two weeks, and is designed for adults who are interested in exploring their creativity by resurfacing and embellishing a small furniture or decorative item. Participants are requested to commit to all sessions in order to have enough time to successfully complete their mosaic project.  The cost for the full workshop is $75, and includes 10 hours of instruction, all materials needed, and a suitable furniture piece or object to mosaic from ReStore inventory.  A list and explanation of additional usable “findings” for the mosaic will be available after sign up.
Instructor Susan Zipper is a professional mosaicist who has been teaching fine craft in South Jersey for over 25 years, most recently at the Clay College and Innovation Center in Millville. “People who sign up do not have to be experienced, just willing to experiment and let their imagination flow… this art form is a lot of fun,” Zipper explained.
JUNE WORKSHOP DATES: Clinic Tuesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m.; Sessions Thursday, June 7 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 9 from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 16 from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
JULY WORKSHOP DATES (all weekday evenings): Clinic Monday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Sessions Tuesday, July 10 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday, July 12 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 17 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, July 19 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Early registration is encouraged, as classes sell out quickly. Register online at habitatcapemay.org, call the ReStore at (609) 465-1626, or stop by in person at 20 Court House S. Dennis Rd. (next to Big Lots). Watch for our new chalk-painting workshop starting this summer!
