Summer certainly brings its share of joys, from sunny afternoons at the beach to the happy tunes of the neighborhood ice cream truck. It also brings some less pleasant realities, like sticky humidity and sweltering 90+ degree temperatures.
When summer weather is at its worst, keeping the house cool and comfortable becomes a top priority. Until recently, homeowners had just two choices: traditional ducted air conditioning systems or noisy, unsightly window units. The introduction of ductless split systems changes everything.
What is it?
A split system ductless air conditioning system has similar parts to a traditional ducted system. A condenser is placed outside your home and is attached to an evaporator installed high on a wall in your home. Tubes filled with refrigerant run from the outside unit to the inside unit through a hole as small as three inches. The indoor component is usually about seven inches deep and most homeowners enjoy their small size and sleek, high-tech look.
What if I need more than one?
A single-zone system has one condenser and one evaporator and is used to cool one room or area. For large areas or multiple rooms, we recommend a multiple-zone split system. This allows you to run up to four indoor units from only one condenser. Because each unit runs independently, you can set them to different temperatures to save energy.
What are its best uses?
Ductless air conditioning systems make good retrofit add-ons to older homes that were originally built without ductwork. They can also be a good choice for room additions where extending or installing ductwork is not feasible, or for rooms in your home that are not efficiently cooled by your conventional AC system.
What are the benefits?
• No expensive and invasive ductwork required
• Because it’s wall-mounted, you don’t have to sacrifice a window to be cool
• Operation is whisper quiet
• Easier to install than some other types of space conditioning systems
• More efficient than conventional ducted AC systems
• Air purifying filters absorb dust, pollen, germs, mildew and odor-causing gases
• Flexibility for zoning cooling individual rooms
