Maria Filina turned a boring, old dresser into a bright, eye-catching changing table for her baby boy’s room at her home in North Cape May. She bought the dresser for $45 on Swip Swap and refinished it in just two short days. Since she used chalk paint, sanding wasn’t necessary and she saved a lot of time. Maria shares that the project was very easy and fun to do, and you can do it, too! Here are the steps she took to create this unique piece for her baby boy’s room:
Step 1: First, she painted the dresser and drawers with two coats of the bright blue chalk paint.
Step 2: Next, she distressed the corners of the dresser to give it an aged look. She first used antique dark glaze and then used gold glaze.
Step 3: Lastly, after letting the dresser dry for a few hours, she applied four coats of water-based polyurethane. She allowed the dresser to dry for a few hours in between coats.
Total Cost: Approximately $75 – $45 for the dresser and $30 for the chalk paint. Maria had the glaze and polyurethane at home already.
