OCEAN CITY – Dancing With The Flowers is the theme of the Artistic Design Division of this resort’s 39th Annual Flower Show set for June 3-5 in the Music Pier auditorium, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.
The Division will feature arrangements such as The Dancing Waters in Class 1, Water Viewing; Dancing the Jitterbug in Class 2, Novice; Disco Fever in Class 3, Suspended; Balinese Dance in Class 4, Oriental; Tea for Two in Class 5, Tea Tray; Conga Line Dancers in Class 6, Expressive and Class 7 Shadow Boxes.
There are other artistic categories for all ages and levels of skill. These are descriptively explained in the flower show schedule, available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., 609-525-9300 and at local flower shops.
“This show accommodates everyone,” says Donna Leone who heads the Artistic Design Division. “You don’t have to be an experienced competitor to enter.” All arrangements are reviewed by accredited judges and prizes are awarded.
While the Artistic Design Division features arrangements, the Horticulture segment includes plants with categories for roses, perennials, cactus, window boxes, orchids, etc.
One of the longest running events of its kind on the East Coast, the exhibition is staged by the Garden Club of Ocean City.
“The Club works year around to make the event a success,” said Frank Leone, chairman and driving force behind the show. “We’ll have over 300 entries. It is one of the largest ows of its kind in the Delaware Valley.”
Entry is free to both the competitors and the public. Visitors may leave a donation to support the committee’s work.
Hours are 2 to 9 p.m., Fri.; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. A Trade Fair offering flowers, plants and related products for sale is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
