Winter is like a perhaps hand
with dead bush roots
and a frost-bitten foot
snow looked at through a window
a snowman arranged with a dandy
carrot nose left spare and minimum
by youthful people staring
here placing evergreen garlands
on railings waiting to receive
mailings of Christmas cards
fresh crisp air for tardy times
and careful doctors to breathe
