The Miracle Stick

Fashioned by the loving hands
Of two young nieces
Eager to honor the tradition
Of homemade gifts,
Intricate and original
In its design of musicality,
A long cardboard tube,
A wooden flute enclosed,
A mouthpiece and finger holes,
Small strings at an opening,
A cluster of bangles and beads
In a bottom compartment
For extra sounds of delight,
The work, the care,
The detailed instruction slip,
The time and joy
That went into its creation
Makes every toot, every note
A special symphony
Always playing
In my heart.
