Sea Isle City’s July 4th Events Kicked Off the Holiday Weekend in Style

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City celebrated the July 4th holiday in grand style with a variety of free events, including a popular athletic competition for children, a patriotic concert at the Band Shell, and a memorable fireworks display that illuminated the night sky.
The resort’s Independence Day activities began at 9:30 a.m. with the annual Junior Olympics competition, which brought 595 children (ages 3 to 13) and their families to the Dealy Field Recreation Complex for a series of running, jumping and throwing contests. The games were hosted by 142 volunteers from the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, who organized the competition and “shepherded” the young athletes between each event. After the races were done, the top three winners in each category received Olympic-style medals while standing on a three-tiered victory platform.
“It was another extraordinary day in Sea Isle City,” said long-time yacht club member and event co-organizer J.B. Flora. “We met people from all over – every local state was represented, including New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and beyond. Sea Isle’s Junior Olympics are very popular. In fact, one mother told us that as soon as the weather begins to get warm each spring, her daughter starts asking when the Junior Olympics will take place.”
Following the Junior Olympics – and a picture perfect day on the beach – throngs of people attended the City’s Independence Day Concert at the Excursion Park Band Shell, which featured Alex Glover & Company performing a “Tribute to America.” The songs featured in the concert ranged from classic jazz and soul ballads to pop-country and well-known patriotic tunes.
At 9:00 p.m., a moment after the concert came to a close, the City’s annual July 4th pyrotechnics display began. The fireworks, which were launched from an ocean barge near the 50th Street Beach, resulted in plenty of “oohs” and “aahs” from the countless spectators that filled Sea Isle’s beaches and Promenade. The “rocket’s red glare” brought the beloved summer holiday to a spectacular close in Sea Isle City.
