Reputedly one of the most haunted towns in America, Cape May is inviting the living to get into the “spirit” of the season with Halloween Happenings, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC), Friday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 31.
Visit Cape May’s original haunted house—the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, take a trolley ride with a psychic medium, tour some of Cape May’s Victorian treasures decked out for the season, dine if you dare during Murder Mystery Dinners and much more.
A former Emlen Physick Estate resident is hosting a tea at her favorite haunt. Madame Parmentier’s Psychic Teas on Saturdays, Oct. 17 and 24 are Halloween-themed teas at the Carriage House Tearoom and Café, 1048 Washington St.
Learn what the future holds for you (all in good fun, of course), encounter wandering fortune-tellers or the odd phrenologist at this spooky tea. Madame Parmentier’s Psychic Teas are offered at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both Saturdays.
Visit Dr. Physick’s estate for the Phantoms of the Physick Estate Tour—a self-guided tour featuring spooky sounds, special effects and scary stuff.
See some of Cape May’s Victorian gems decked out in ghoulish fashion during the Phantoms of Cape May Tour. Enjoy a self-guided tour through a selection of spooky properties.
A delicious, but deadly event, Murder Mystery Dinners, feature the “Not Quite Ready for Victorian Times” Players in an interactive dinner program. Enjoy a four-course dinner as a cast of suspicious characters stir up trouble.
On the Historic Haunts House Tour tourgoers will get into the spirit of things on a guided tour of the historic (some say haunted) Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., complete with a discussion on Victorian spiritualism.
Psychic medium, ghost investigator and author, Craig McManus comes to the Emlen Physick Estate, for Midnight at the Physick Estate. During each ghostly tour, 25 lucky people will get to spend midnight in the haunted Physick Estate with Craig McManus who will share his experiences and perhaps channel a spirit or two.
For those who love a good scary story, the Tales of Terror Trolley Ride is the perfect spine-tingling tour. A costumed guide spins tales of terror from the Victorian era as the trolley winds its way past flickering gas lamps through the ghostly streets of Cape May on this 30-minute evening ride.
One of the nation’s oldest continually operating lighthouses, the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse is known for more than just its rich maritime history. Feel the presence of the spirits at the Light on the Ghosts of the Lighthouse Trolley Tour.
This is just a sample of what awaits visitors to Cape May during this spooky time of year.
