Santa Trimmed the Tree

By Herald Staff

By Madeline Jones Harshman, Cape May.
Some of my fondest memories are when a couple of days before Christmas our dad took my brother Tommy, my sister Mary and me to a wooded area to pick out a Christmas tree. Yes, in those days you were allowed to chop down your own Christmas tree! Each of us had an idea of which tree would be the best. Finally, if we couldn’t all decide on one tree our dad would make the final choice and choose one but it was never one that any of us had picked. His choice always looked awesome to us Christmas Day after Santa had come and trimmed it for us. Even when tinsel was very scarce during the years of WWII! Those were the days!
