My Visit with Santa Claus

By Pam Schippe

One of my most treasured memories is going to see Santa at the Macy’s New York City store.
In 1950, after we arrived we were directed downstairs to a lower level in the basement. To my surprise, in pens were eight real reindeer.
A sign attached to each pen with their names: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen.
We were given a small bag with food to feed the reindeer.
Then single file we entered the elevator to the fourth floor.
When the door opened we got in line to visit with Santa Claus.
Whispering in his ear what you were wishing for under the tree on Christmas morning.
How wonderful for me to have this truly unforgettable memory from so many years ago.
