Middle Township Honors Its War Dead

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township marked Memorial Day with a parade followed by solemn tributes at the Thurston Elmer Wood Post 198 American Legion.
World War II Marine Corps veteran Joe Moke, who fought at Iwo Jima, was grand marshal.
Tony Amand was master of ceremonies.
Pastor Ted Osler, of First United Methodist Church, Court House, delivered the invocation and Benediction.
Sarah Jo Ballman sang “God Bless America” and the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Middle Township High School’s Panther Marching Band joined the line of march, and played the national anthem.
Fifth grade essay winners read their works. First place winner was Emma Carlson, second place was Alyse Lord and third place went to Khushbu Patel.
Members of Township Committee spoke including Mayor Susan DeLanzo, Deputy Mayor F. Nathan Doughty and Commmitteeman Dan Lockwood.
First District Assemblyman Matthew Milam delivered greetings on behalf of the legislative team.
Peg Dougherty recited “In Flanders Field.”
Wreathes were placed at the veterans monument by Minnie Callender, Peg Dougherty and Jim Lewis.
Members of the Dramis Detachment, Marine Corps League paid special tribute to their namesake at the traffic island just south of the Legion home.
