VILLAS – Lower Township’s annual Independence Day festival and fireworks display will kick off the Fourth of July holiday on July 3.
“This Independence Day festival and fireworks are a tradition for both residents and visitors to enjoy and celebrate American pride,” said Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Mitchell Plenn, who supervises and manages the event. “It is an evening full of music, entertainment, food, children’s amusement rides, and one of the largest fireworks displays in the area.”
The event, he noted, is a collaboration between the township and the Friends of Lower Township, a group of business owners and residents that have made contributions to fund the annual community tradition.
The festival begins at 5 p.m. along the bay front in North Cape May between Lincoln Boulevard and Emerson Avenue. Amusement rides such as the Americana Chair Swing, the three-lane Fun Slide, the Kidstown Firehouse ride, the Road Rally Chariot ride, the Mickey Mouse Club obstacle course and the fire engine bounce house will be on Rosehill Parkway.
Entertainment such as Philadelphia’s own Lima Bean Riot, along with the Thirsty Wilson Band, and local favorites Banana Trio will get the crowds dancing. The event will also feature food vendors, games and fun for the entire family.
As the festival winds down around 8:45 p.m., grab your beach blankets and chairs and head down to the bay to watch the fireworks illuminate the Delaware Bay. The fireworks will start after 9 p.m. and are one of the largest pyrotechnic shows in the region.
