VILLAS – The Christmas season began in Lower Township Dec. 3 with children ringing bells, music from a high school choir and a salute to veterans.
The event opened inside the Recreation Center with music from the Lower Cape May Regional High School Choir.
The Righteous Ringers, a children’s bell ringing group from Seashore Community Church of the Nazarene, delighted the audience with two Christmas carols.
Senator Jeff Van Drew and Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak honored the township’s veterans and offered Christmas greetings to the crowd.
An honor guard from VFW Post 5343 lead a procession through a candlelit path to the Veteran’s Memorial at the front of Township Hall. A wreath was placed at the memorial by Mayor Michael Beck.
Following the singing of a Christmas carol, the township’s tree and decorations were illuminated. After the ceremony, hot chocolate and cookies were served in Township Hall.
Santa Claus visited with children and noted their requests for presents.
