Imagine a Walk with Mr. and Mrs. Claus

By Herald Staff

By Karla Kiefer, Rio Grande.
I recognize the Claus’ warmly lit house with the dusting of snow on the walkway bushes. Like winged socks, birds perch and chirp on the branches during the day.
Mr. Santa Claus answers the door to my knock, and smiles. He says, “Fresh air, take a deep breath. Clean your boots on our welcome mat.”
I say, “Thanks for bringing me gifts made by loving hands.”
Mrs. Santa says, “Step inside while my husband and I get our coats.” I step in from the cold. On the front lawn, twinkling, glowing points of light nestle in the branches of a spruce tree.
We’re on our way to the North Pole church to celebrate baby Jesus being born. A husky dog in the neighborhood barks in the evening distance. Carillon bells chime from the church bell tower. The melody Silent Night brings beauty to the crisp night, playing peacefully.
We walk in silence, boots crunching on the packed sidewalk snow. There’s no uncomfortableness in not speaking. The anticipation of the church fellowship on this blessed night of the year is made joyous by walking beside friends from my childhood. Our pastor is sure to preach a message of love.
So now once again this year, I celebrate God’s gifts with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child by filling a box to bring to church.
I was not a sexual slave in my childhood like millions of child victims. I am thankful that Mr. and Mrs. Claus walk with me in spirit.
There is love in World Vision, Joyce Meyers Ministries, Life International, Samaritan’s Purse, Beauty from Ashes Ministries, and International Justice Missions in resealing victims of sexual trafficking,
“Yes, speak up for the poor and needy and see that they get justice.’ (LB) Proverbs 31:9
