Holly Beach Train Depot More Than Trains

By Sponsored Content

Step inside Holly Beach Train Depot and take a trip down memory lane.
This shop has everything from historical pictures of the German Zeppelin Hindenburg flying over North Wildwood and Andrews Ave. Train Station in the 1950s to antique items like a Hires Root Beer sign, and a 1950’s Coke Box with a railroad lantern.
The owner, Larry Lillo, is on the Board of Directors at Wildwood Historical Society and has many stories of his own that he’d be happy to share with you when you stop by.
One story being that he acquired a bright orange box car from a house that was being demolished some time ago. Lillo proudly displayed this box car in the shop’s window for many years and received a good amount of compliments and questions about it.
He answered what he could about the history of it but left much to the imagination. That is, until one beautiful summer day a car driving down Pacific Avenue passes the shop but slams on the brakes and reverses, parking directly in front of Holly Beach Train Depot.
Lillo was then met with a girl in her late 20s pointing at the orange car asking where he got it from. Apparently, it was once hers and a crucial part of her childhood.
She and Lillo talked for some time about how she used to play dolls with the box car and how she couldn’t believe that it was right here in front of her. It certainly made her day — and also Lillo’s!
Why not stop by and relive some of your fondest memories while passing on new stories to your loved ones? Every child remembers picking out their first train set, but make this an extra special shopping experience.
At Holly Beach Train Depot you can also browse through a variety of train billboards that you can buy for your platform, including some of Wildwood’s well known establishments.
Billboard pictures include legends like Castle Dracula that used to be at Nickels’ Midway Pier on the Wildwood Boardwalk but caught fire in January 2002 or Zaberer’s Restaurant in Anglesea. Also included are favorites like Johnson’s Popcorn, Lucy the Elephant, Mack’s Pizza and so many more.
Shop specialty items like The Polar Express, Harley Davidson, Smithsonian Museum, Thomas & Friends, Horseshoe Curve, Harry Potter, Coca-Cola, Sunoco, Texaco, Caterpillar, Mini Metals, and more.
Holly Beach Train Depot is located at 4712 Pacific Ave. in Wildwood and carries everything from die-cast vehicles, miniatures, buildings, t-shirts, trains, tracks, books, magazines, and train accessories galore.
Special orders are always possible and items can be shipped worldwide.
