Help Lower Township Start a Patriotic Tradition

By Press Release

VILLAS — On July 3 at the Lower Township Independence Day Festival, immediately following the fireworks grand finale, the Lower Township Council and residents ask that the festival crowd join them in singing “God Bless America.”
The lyrics, originally penned by Irving Berlin in 1918 and made popular by Kate Smith in 1938, are as follows:
“God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home,
God bless America, My home sweet home.”
The idea for joining together in song was brought to the attention of Lower Township Manager Mike Voll by a resident who witnessed the tradition in other municipalities and thought it would be a nice addition to Lower Township’s Independence Day Festival.
