Green Renewable Gifts at Fiber Arts

By Press Release

What better gift in today’s climate than a hand-knit gift from an organic and renewable resource?
We wonder which cave man (or woman) thought to go around and collect bits of discarded fur, then twist it this way and that, until it created a string that could be knit or woven.
As for knitting, there’s evidence it dates back 5,000 years, being found in Egyptian tombs. Quite a clever person who first took two sticks and was able to create a knitted cloth, don’t you think?
The renewable part of all yarns is that they never injure or harm an animal. Sheep are shorn for their wool and Angora rabbits combed. Some exotic fur such as buffalo and musk ox are just collected from the ground after the animals shed. So what might have become compost is now used to knit or crochet warm garments for humans.
Our busy knitters at Fiber Arts have been creating the neatest gifts imaginable just for this time of year. You haven’t known luxury till your feet experience the feel of a hand knit pair of socks. They fit so well — not too tight, and just snug enough — and best of all, they are really warm!
Other gift items you will find are: Snuggly Wristers in cashmere yarn, hand knit scarves hats & berets, tea cozies, capelets, baby sweaters and blankets, and the list goes on.
Since every hand knit gift is a one-of -a-kind and the selection changes daily, it’s best to stop in Fiber Arts to see exactly what is offered. The shop will be open seven days a week now thru the end of the year, with the exception of Christmas Day.
You can call ahead at 609-898-8080 to find out “what’s knitting today” at the shop.
Next year, if you want to be the one who knits these awesome gifts, consider our Knitting or Crochet University Courses being offered in January 2012. This is a series of 18 classes meeting once a week, to take you from the very basics of knitting or crocheting, to creating your own hats, scarves, cowls, sweaters, and even socks!
If you already knit a bit, consider jumping in mid-way thru the course, taking only the classes that you want. There will be a graduation and awards ceremony in May. Individual classes consisting of three sessions are only $45.
The entire Knitting University or Crochet University Course is $225, a savings of $45, plus you receive the bonus tote bag and course books included with your course.
Did I mention that students taking either an individual class, or the entire course, receive 10 percent discount at the shop for all their purchases?
Registrations are now being accepted for individual classes or university courses. Class size is limited, so call Fiber Arts today at 609-898-8080, or stop in at 315 Ocean Street, in beautiful downtown Cape May from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily, Sunday noon – 5 p.m.
We hope you will share our pleasure of creating beautiful hand knitted gifts, by shopping with Fiber Arts this Christmas. For the knitter or crocheter in your life, we offer gift certificates of any amount redeemable for merchandise, private tutoring, or classes at the shop.
