NORTH WILDWOOD — The forecast called for a gorgeous spring day, but cool winds and dense fog rolled in instead. Still, thousands on North Wildwood’s boardwalk didn’t seem to notice.
Parents and grandparents, with children in tow, came to fill their Easter baskets and meet the Easter Bunny at the special event sponsored by the Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge 1986.
It was Saturday, April 3, when a line of eager kids, young and old, stretched for blocks along the boardwalk, waiting for the signal to run on the beach and gather Easter eggs.
First, Mayor Bill Henfey welcomed the crowd. Then Tom Eisiminger explained the plan: the Easter Bunny had scattered thousands of Easter eggs in each of three pens, one for the youngest, one for the mid-sized, and one for the oldest kids.
Then he gave the signal to begin. At the end of the ramp, Elks volunteers set free about 25 kids at a time, who poured into the pens, searching for the best eggs to fill their baskets.
Kids entered the pens at one end, exited at the other, and were guided to tables where more Elks volunteers gave out goodie bags and soft pretzels.
Many stopped for photos with the Easter Bunny (George Capua), before they went on their way to enjoy the rest of Easter Weekend.
Mayor Henfey said, “Kids and parents alike had a great time at the Easter Egg Hunt, as families have been doing for approximately 25 years. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make this happen, and I’d like to thank all the Elks for volunteering their time and energy year after year.”
